Collecting or Congesting?

Collecting or Congesting?

I used to collect ornamental tortoises—I know! I’m a delightful oddbod with my own mix of foibles, if I say so myself. I don’t quite remember what sparked this collection, but looking back now, I realise a few turtles slipped in too (I didn’t really know what I was doing at the start!).

And as I mentioned it to friends, family, and colleagues, I began to receive more—some tortoises, some turtles. In their generous and earnest efforts, they didn’t know the difference either. Eventually, after various changes and seasons in my life, these beautiful ornaments no longer brought the same joy, fascination, or sense of connection.

What does it take to decide whether to keep and display them—or to let them go?

We do this, don’t we?
We collect people, pastimes, pressures, adventures, anxieties, choices, values… all the things that reinforce our identity and sense of purpose. Some remain static fixtures in our lives. Others shift as our priorities, energy, and direction evolve or they get broken, hidden or forgotten but they still take up a low level of energy and space.

To what extent are the things we collect supporting our growth—or congesting it?

Is it time for a stock take? A quiet inventory? A moment to ask:
Why am I still keeping things I didn’t even mean to collect (turtles)?
Is my original collection still bringing me joy, or is it weighing me down?

The coaching space invites us to explore these questions. Not just for those in helping or safeguarding professions—but for anyone who’s been avoiding those metaphorical drawers and cupboards, knowing that what’s in there may ask for a decision: What do I keep, and what is it time to let go of?

💭 The 4 R’s
✨ Reignite—What still lights you up?
✨ Reframe—What no longer fits the picture?
✨ Redefine—What needs to evolve?
✨ Restore—What clears space for peace and purpose?

If this reflection resonates with you—if you’re sensing that something in your “collection” is asking for attention—why not give yourself the gift of space to explore it?

🧭 I’m currently developing a Compassionate Clarity Workshop—a gentle, structured space to help you untangle difficult decisions, reconnect with your values, and move forward with more ease and intention.

Thank-you for spending these meaningful minutes with me.

Warm regards Kirsty
